Programs


Community Services League provides a broad spectrum of services to meet the immediate and long term needs of the community. Services include Emergency Assistance, Housing Counseling, and Work Express. In 2006, Community Services League provided assistance to over 18,000 families that included 41,823 individuals of which 17,052 were children.

Emergency
Assistance
The heart of the Community Services League programming is Emergency Assistance. The Emergency Assistance program is there to meet the immediate needs of families. People with 150% or less of the federal poverty guidelines receive:
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • School Supplies
  • Utility Payment Assistance
  • Rental Assistance
  • Medication Payment Assistance
  • Assistance with code abatement issues including weed and debris
  • Transportation
  • Access to the CSL Holiday Store
Housing
Counseling
Low-income, homeless, and marginally housed individuals are provided assistance in finding decent and affordable housing. Services include:
  • Referrals to shelters and other temporary housing
  • Deposits on apartments and utilities
  • Mortgage payment assistance
  • Placement in public, affordable and permanent housing
  • Section 8 and permanent housing
  • Transitional housing
  • Liaison and advocacy with Jackson County Public Housing and county landlords
  • Budget counseling
  • Case Management
  • Outreach and referrals
Work
Express
The goal of Work Express is to support individuals in achieving self-sufficiency by providing assistance in obtaining and retaining employment. Services assist low-income persons in the successful transition from under-employment and joblessness to independence in the work world. Employment development services include:
  • Job training, educational and employment opportunities
  • Transportation assistance
  • Child care assistance referrals
  • Resume writing
  • Job referrals
  • Provision of clothing appropriate for work and school
  • Work and school mentoring
  • Assistance with job readiness and job-keeping skills
  • Developing basic computer skills
  • Use of the computer/resource lab
